Introducing Children’s Dental Care

Particularly for children, prevention and early treatment is where the most difference is made. This is done by establishing the baseline of their dental health through examinations and preparation. It is much easier to prevent an issue then to treat one, making it incredibly important that patients are monitored as soon as their first birthday. We treat each of our patients as an individual, ensuring personalized care catered to their needs.

What Can You Expect?

At your child’s initial visit, you can expect a warm introduction to our team, our office, and the operatory rooms before their exam and cleaning. We invite both you and your little one to take time to become familiar before any cleaning or dental exam takes place.

Every child’s first visit is a group effort involving our staff, a parent, and the child. Children under the age of four are welcome to sit on their parent’s lap as create a good first impression of healthcare. Parents can expect a short appointment that introduces children to the many facets of professional dental care. Additionally, follow-up appointments are also generally 30-minutes long, provided no treatment is conducted.

Each step of the process is explained to the patient to ensure they understand what’s going on, from the exam to conducting treatment, leaving no surprises.

Children who are older and further along in their dental development may have x-rays taken and receive an extended examination, depending on their individual needs. We understand that patients may have been referred to our practice, which is why we make an effort to develop relationships with patients prior to their care. Check-up visits, exams, prophylaxis, and x-rays are conducted when needed until children are old enough to receive routine care. At this point, while patients are usually comfortable enough with our care to be seen without Mom or Dad at their side, we always welcome parents to join in on the fun!

Why Bring Your Child In Early?

The purpose of the first visit is to help children alleviate anxieties by becoming familiar with their dentist and comfortable with the idea of receiving care. When seeing your child at our office, we provide instructions in building healthy habits for maintaining optimal oral through throughout their lifetime.
